Men to be sentenced in animal cruelty case
WASHINGTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The two men connected to an animal cruelty case will be sentenced today in court without a trial after accepting plea deals.
Shane Morehouse, 52, of Fort Edward was charged with animal cruelty and abandonment when he took his friend's dog, Chubby, duct taped its feet together, and left it on the side of a road in Argyle in February.
The owner of the dog, Louis Hart, says he believed the dog was going to die and gave it to Morehouse to give to his nephew so the dog could have room to run before dying peacefully.
Morehouse admitted to duct taping and leaving the dog, but says Hart told him to kill Chubby because he couldn't financially afford to care for him.
Hart denied telling him to kill his dog. Chubby was euthanized the day it was rescued.
Both men pleaded guilty last month and face up to 60 days in jail when they're sentenced today.
